The icon of 'The Baptism of Christ' was commissioned by Rev. James Clerkin, PP, Strabane and created by Sr. Aloysius McVeigh, a painter and iconographer from the Mercy Convent in Derry. It was consecrated and installed by Bishop Francis Lagan on the 8th March 1996 on the occasion of the celebration of the centenary of the church.
The painting took more than 800 hours to complete and in her letter to Fr Clerkin, Sr Aloysius noted that she was particularly pleased 'at how - totally unplanned the water/ river symbolising the source of life continues out from the icon into the church background.'
