Baptismal Font

This font is perfectly situated in an area which was originally one of the smaller altars in the Church of the Immaculate Conception. It is a simple hexagon shape sitting on top of narrow polished marble columns, which mirror the columns in the nave of the church. It may have been sculpted by James Pearse and Sons of Dublin who also created the altars and the communion rails.

Probably the most famous of the many thousands of Strabane people baptised in this church over the years is Brian O'Nolan otherwise known as Flann O'Brien. A novelist and playwright, he is considered a major figure in twentieth century Irish literature.
